California-based lawyer shouting good and bad ideas, and also okay ones, into the void.
Let's all yell at each other about how to make things better.
He/his.
Every instance of a parking fine is an instance of the city having failed to provide adequate infrastructure. Parking fines are regressive and primarily assessed against poor people, since the affluent can afford private parking; the property tax aligns incentives.
All funds collected by a city via parking enforcement to be earmarked for parking development/subsidies; each parking fine to be additionally assessed as a property tax distributed across all properties within 2 blocks of the citation site. #onesentencepolicies#Parking#policy
Hey @CAgovernor@GavinNewsom, how about lifting WIC/SNAP restrictions so people who rely on those benefits can still feed their kids even when panicking hoarders have swept all the WIC-eligible items from the shelves?
@afullerstory @TauZaman Unfortunately, this isn't an area I'm qualified to opine about. Ideologically and based on second-hand experience, I'm on board... but I haven't done or read any actual scholarship on the subject.
Your vote should be informed by the candidates' policies and your expectations of their ability to govern, but the perception of electability results in an unacceptable (and easily manipulated) distortion of the democratic process.
For each year spent as a lobbyist, you may not be appointed to a state/federal agency for one year; for each year in a state/federal agency, legislative body, or executive office, you may not engage in lobbying activities for one year.

Hey @TimHarford, is there a book out there on mechanism design for non-quants? If not, would you like to write one?
... possibly together with an unknown-but-exceedingly-clever attorney who understands the law to be a mechanism desperately in need of (re)design?
But either way.
Whenever any part of a debt is offered for sale to another creditor (or collections agency), now the creditor must *first* offer it to the borrower on the same terms (a right of first refusal).

When accessing a social service involves two or more government agencies, there must exist a simple and accessible way to get authorized representatives from each relevant agency into a conference call.

Exclusivity agreements for content (TV, music, movies, games, etc.) lasting more than ~3 months are now unenforceable; culture moves fast, and siloing content both harms consumers and encourages piracy.

The fun twist here is that absent an endorsement, the content is presumptively *false* which means it's libelous; if you manage to prove veracity, then you've necessarily admitted that it was nonconsensual, since otherwise you wouldn't have had to prove veracity.
@ziibiing Your recent content (and, obviously, this tremendous unfortunateness around @RepKatieHill) inspired the latest one-sentence policy proposal.

To be extra clear: this is not some "I identify as an attack helicopter" nonsense. The point is not that it's absurd to identify as anything other than woman/man or female/male - it's that the categories themselves are arbitrary and so there's no reason not to live authentically.
