the stop start method is the most clinically validated technique for increasing male stamina during intercourse. it was developed by urologist James Semans in the 1950s and has been used in sex therapy for 70 years because it works. the principle is simple: approach the point of no return, stop all stimulation, let the arousal recede to about 50%, resume stimulation. repeat 3 to 5 times before allowing ejaculation. the practice trains the nervous system to tolerate higher levels of arousal without triggering the ejaculatory reflex.

the mechanism: the ejaculatory reflex is triggered when arousal crosses a threshold at the spinal cord level. below the threshold, ejaculation is voluntary. above the threshold, it is involuntary (the "point of no return"). the stop start method trains the brain and spinal cord to raise this threshold. each cycle of approach and retreat teaches the nervous system that high arousal does not have to produce ejaculation. the threshold gradually rises. the man who could previously reach the point of no return in 3 minutes can, after 4 to 6 weeks of practice, sustain arousal for 15 to 20 minutes before reaching the same threshold.

the training protocol: begin with solo practice. stimulate to 70% of the point of no return (arousal scale of 0 to 10, stop at 7). stop completely. let arousal drop to 4 or 5. resume. repeat 3 to 5 times per session. after 2 weeks of solo practice, transition to partner practice. the partner provides stimulation (manual first, then oral, then intercourse). the stop signal shifts from your hand stopping to you communicating "pause" to your partner.

the stop during intercourse should be disguised as a position change, a shift in depth (shallow strokes), or a pause for eye contact and verbal connection. the woman should not feel that the encounter is being interrupted. the pause is reframed as presence rather than limitation. the man who pauses, makes eye contact, says something intimate, and then resumes is not "lasting longer." he is creating the emotional intensity that research shows is the most powerful female arousal amplifier.

the technique compounds with the reverse kegel. combine both: at the point of arousal (7 out of 10), pause movement AND perform a reverse kegel AND take 3 slow breaths. the triple intervention (stop mechanical input, release muscular tension, switch nervous system) produces a dramatic arousal drop that extends the encounter by minutes per cycle. 3 to 5 cycles per encounter. 5 to 10 additional minutes per cycle. the math produces encounters of 20 to 40 minutes from a baseline of 3 to 5.

the technique has 70 years of clinical validation. the urologist who developed it published the method in 1956. the method is taught in every sex therapy program in the world. the men who last 20+ minutes are not genetically different. they are trained. the training takes 4 to 6 weeks. the improvement is permanent. and the technique that would transform most men's sexual performance has been in the clinical literature since Eisenhower was president.
