@SportsTalkGary There was a point when I was the staunchest trae defender because we really were making solid playoff runs with 4/5 starters being mid, and I think I have some cognitive dissonance accepting that maybe trae can’t find a way to work in an offense where he’s not the only instigator
@SportsTalkGary Plus if other GMs see things the same way as you do about trae, then we theoretically should be able to get other high caliber players for him. That’s the premise of trading, not just dropping him for spare change
@SportsTalkGary Imma be honest with you I might consider dj a player of Trae’s caliber. At least it seems like he doesn’t stop other players from getting their own looks, he’s not a practice cone on defense, and he averaged 21 9 and 8 with the spurs and has only gotten better on offense since
@SportsTalkGary Well considering that Huerter and JC are gone idk how much that means. Seems like we don’t run pick and roll with capela nearly as much as a couple years ago, and even at that idk if I would call receiving some pick and roll lobs “elevated offense” for capela
@SportsTalkGary He’s a great passer and takes the hawks farther in the playoffs than they should go, but he also turns the ball over a shit ton and when the offense runs thru him almost nobody else gets looks of their own. He’s never had an all star tm, but that’s partially bc he kills tms usage
@SportsTalkGary Genuinely wanna hear your reasoning for this. I don’t necessarily disagree, but I’m always on the fence about this conversation. It’s undeniable that the hawks looked surprisingly decent with him out, then looked notably bad after he returned and in the play-in
