Wild to watch the Supreme Court dismantle the Voting Rights Act on the theory that state legislatures have stopped discriminating on the basis of race, only to watch the Tennessee Legislature expel two Black men yesterday on the basis of race.
The Supreme Court is off the rails. Some ideas for reform:
1) Enact term limits
2) Enforce ethics standards
3) Require financial disclosures
4) Expand the court
5) Rotate justices
Enough is enough.
I just had a visit from the head of HR and the House ethics lawyer, I appreciate them letting me know that if I am expelled, I will lose my health benefits. I also appreciate the ethics lawyer, letting me know that in one case, a member who was potentially up for expulsion
Republicans are saying that there is nothing more we can do to stop mass shootings.
There is one thing we can do: we can stop Republicans.
Vote out every gun-loving candidate.
Save our kids.
Vote for their lives.
Vote Blue.
Medicine, not politics, should drive our global health dollars.
U.S. foreign assistance should improve lives, not harm them—& expand, not restrict, access to essential health care.
We must pass my #GlobalHERAct w/@RepBera@RepSchakowsky & end the shameful #GlobalGagRule.
@evanwm91 Compassionate Care ALS, such a huge help to over the last three years to the whole family during my MIL time with ALS. We lost her in August, big hugs to you, it it such an awful disease. https://t.co/5RcZpRTdKQ
@duty2warn@AARP@AARP has more than 38 million members. The silence concerning Republican plans to kill Social Security and Medicare is an abject failure. Hey AARP, save the tote bags and car trunk organizers, and do something meaningful and important for your members.
THREAD. This is a thread about a "crime wave" that you barely hear about in the daily national news or on local tv every night. A crime wave by corporate landlords. It's important to understand what is happening, and also who benefits from the media not treating it as urgent.
Wealth inequality is eating this country alive. Concentrated wealth is already endangering our democracy. Wealth doesn’t just beget more wealth — it begets more power.
It’s a vicious cycle that destroys our economy and democracy at the same time.
A quick reminder:
1) Trickle-down economics is a cruel joke designed by the wealthy.
2) The “free market” has been distorted by campaign contributions from the ultra-rich.
3) Don’t lionize the ultra-rich as superior, “self-made” human being. They were lucky, had connections.
@morninggloria Everyone reading alone in their rooms was a totally normal activity in our house. Now I get it. I am an introvert with no kids, my brother has three and it is chaos, but they all are big readers 🤣
Full-time minimum wage workers can't afford to live anywhere in America and this crisis is completely ignored by the entire politico-media complex as if it's normal for there to be an abundance of vacant homes to live in while people die on the street.
Someday most people will realize what a fatal mistake it is to allow corporations and the rich to control everything. All they see is through the limited lens of quarterly profit reports, including your life, including Earth’s very habitability. I hope it happens soon.
What we learned from COVID? That oil is worthless in a society without consumption. That healthcare has to be public because health is public. That 50% of jobs can be done from home while the other 50% deserve more than they're being paid. That we live in a society not an economy
