@Terry_Chiles Having them do work, but not always grade it. As Kelly Gallagher said, it's way more important that they write, then we grade it all!

when I talk to kids about bad work habits, I often say "it’s time to get rid of negative thinking!" I tell them to reach inside their head, grab a hold of it, and throw it in the trash! They usually humor me and act it out, and I swear it makes a difference!#WarriorsAHbookstudy

He says "instant gratification usually wins," so I believe in staying in the power zone as much as possible! When I go around the room and read kids writing as they work and praise the way they’re using language or figurative language, it really affects them! #WarriorsAHbookstudy

Immediate rewards means giving fist bumps when kids read aloud; such a small thing, but they really look for them!
