In 1916, an 18-year-old Massachusetts National Guardsman boarded a train bound for the Mexican border.

At every stop along the way, he mailed a postcard home to his mother.

More than a century later, those postcards survived.

And thanks to one collector's dedication, the entire journey can still be followed stop-by-stop across America.

This week, we sat down with Shawn Pease of the Rhode Island Philatelic Society to explore a remarkable family collection and the history hiding inside it.
