However, numerous unanswered questions remain about the security clearances conducted before the Trump rally on 13 July to protect the president and prevent attacks.
The Secret Service is trained to take aggressive action against threats by conducting thorough security sweeps and checks at all times. These checks examine people, data, suspicious activity, and physical infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities and minimise potential risks.
The Trump event was marred by the Secret Service’s poor communication, leaving agents unaware of any suspicious activity. Timely communication could have alerted everyone to potential risks and prevented the gunman from accessing the AGR building and shooting.
The circumstances surrounding the incident were concerning. The Secret Service failed to utilise drones and conduct risk assessments at the AGR building near the rally. This oversight posed a significant threat enabling the young gunman to succeed.
The Secret Service underestimated the potential threat posed by the young Caucasian male observed by several agents at the Trump event. This undermined their safety culture.
The Secret Service failed to mitigate the risk. They disregarded this established protocol by not barring access to the AGR building. This allowed the gunman to freely roam and ultimately climb the rooftop to shoot before being neutralised.
The Secret Service, which prioritises the safety of the president, former presidents and dignitaries they protect, should have ensured adequate security and safety for Mr Trump at the rally site, following their code of operation.
