Here is how political parties performed in the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election, with the APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, dominating the race at the polls.
Beyond the results, the election highlights an important reality: out of 988,251 registered voters, only 384,940 were accredited, while 382,109 votes were cast. The significant gap between registered voters and actual turnout underscores the need for stronger civic engagement and voter participation in future elections.
Every vote counts, but only when citizens show up to make their voices heard.

PPDC and BISIGI Africa, alongside partner organisations, presented their joint post-election Situation Room statement after deploying 202 observers across the 16 LGAs of Ekiti State during the 2026 Governorship Election.
While the election was largely peaceful and security personnel were generally professional and impartial, observers recorded incidents of vote buying, BVAS-related challenges, accessibility barriers for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), inconsistencies in some polling unit records, and low participation of women and PWDs.
The coalition called on INEC to address these concerns ahead of the Osun Governorship Election and the 2027 General Elections, while commending election officials, security agencies, CSOs, the media, and domestic and international observers for their contributions to the process.
The credibility of any election depends on the commitment of all stakeholders to uphold democratic integrity and protect the will of the people.

The elections may be over, but our work doesn't end at the close of polls.
Following the conclusion of the Ekiti elections, our team returned to various polling units to gather citizens' feedback and better understand the challenges experienced during the process.
While many voters expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the election, several concerns were raised, particularly regarding the malfunctioning of BVAS machines in some polling units, which affected the voting process.

Preliminary Statement on the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election
Public and Private Development Centre - PPDC @bisigiafrica and partner organisations have released their preliminary findings after deploying observers across all 16 LGAs in Ekiti State today.
The Good:
Early deployment of election materials and officials.
Orderly and largely peaceful conduct supported by professional security personnel.
The Concerns:
Generally low voter turnout, though elderly participation was notable.
BVAS facial authentication difficulties delaying voters.
Isolated reports of vote buying and inducement, notably in parts of Ado-Ekiti.
We urge INEC to review BVAS performance for future polls, security agencies to prosecute vote-buyers, and stakeholders to improve PWD accessibility.

β οΈ Observer Report
Our observers noted a concerning development in one of the wards, where election officials were seen moving close to voters while ballots were being marked.
The proximity of officials to voting cubicles raises concerns about voter privacy and the secrecy of the ballot, both of which are fundamental to a free and fair electoral process.
We continue to monitor the situation and document developments from across the state.
