What a difference! These paintings were made just 3 years apart. The 1st was made in the Netherlands (1884), while the 2nd is from Paris (1887), painted after Vincent embraced Impressionism. Now on view: ‘Vive l’Impressionnisme! Masterpieces from Dutch Collections’ until 26 Jan.

Meet Adeline Ravoux 🙍‍♀️, daughter of Arthur-Gustave Ravoux, the innkeeper who rented a room to Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890. Adeline didn't recognize herself, but Vincent believed in capturing essence over exact likeness, as long as it expressed someone's being.
