Australian manager Josh Smith has been appointed as head coach of the Solomon Islands men's national team! 🇦🇺🤝🇸🇧

In one of our latest pieces, FPF writer @Pagonis98 spoke to Josh Smith, the individual known as the architect for helping players from the Pacific Island region to move to Australia and play their football 🇸🇧🇻🇺🇦🇺

Smith spoke exclusively to FPF about football in the region as well as a potential future to see more talented players from Oceania play their regular club football in Australia 👇

"People forget how close these countries are to Australia. The Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are only a few hours away from Brisbane by plane. These countries are footballing nations; they are super passionate about football, and I would like to see us embrace that a little more," Smith said.

"Their sacrifices are huge compared to what we must make to live in this beautiful country. There are many challenges, such as visas, accommodation, support from the club, transport, and jobs (...) Many of these guys spend a lot of their time away from their young families and kids,

"(...) [They're] well-liked, super players, but also amazing human beings."
