Happy #TeacherAppreciationWeek from NSTA! We’re celebrating ALL #educators, but especially #science educators who spark curiosity, inspire discovery, and shape the future, one experiment, question, and "aha!" moment at a time. See https://t.co/MyohUqLJ8N. #ScienceTeacher
Thank you to the fabulous @viviankirkfield, the hardworking judges, and the many generous donors for making the #50PreciousWords contest possible each year!
If you're seeing the Northern Lights tonight, here's an explainer of how the different colors can appear! We are currently seeing a vivid display of pinks and greens here at the office!
Great write-up from Chaminade U. about using Picture-Perfect STEM Lessons and multicultural children’s literature such as Drum Dream Girl to teach STEM. 📚

We’re talking about the Moon and the Science and Engineering Practices with Chaminade University pre-service teachers today. Go out and look at the Supermoon and the partial lunar eclipse tonight! And check out “A Moon of My Own” and “Next Time You See the Moon.” #KidLit#STEM
TIPS: Keep book selections current; surround kids w/ positive messages about reading; teach them how to do a 1-min. book talk; let them write shelf copy about books; & let them express their opinions—positive or negative—about what they read. #KidLit#MG

A nice morning with Kansas teachers learning about STEM, children’s literature, and elephants! Thanks for the opportunity (& providing free books for participants @frizzlerichard 🤗)

Started the day with a great group of Kansas educators! (“You get a book, and you get a book, and you get a book!” Thank you @frizzlerichard 🤗)

"The almost magical power of storytelling to transform and heal" is one of the best reasons I've seen for reading aloud to your students throughout the school day and across all subject areas. Reading aloud is magic. 🪄

Fun Fact: Quicksand is a colloid of water and sand, silt, or clay. This non-Newtonian fluid can look like a solid when undisturbed (think Oobleck), but can quickly lose viscosity when stepped on. Luckily, it is impossible for a human to sink entirely due to its higher density!
In the 60's, quicksand was a recurring element in movies and TV. In my mind it was a clear and present danger so I learned how to survive it (don't panic, lie on back to distribute weight). I was also afraid of the Bermuda Triangle, razor blades in candy bars, and Charles Manson.
Happy #Eclipse Day to those who celebrate! Nothing but blue skies and sun here in beautiful Lebanon, #Ohio. Less than 2 hours to totality! 🌞
