What a busy week! We looked at where we live, the seas around Wales, and some of the creatures that live in them. We looked at the alphabet and sorted upper and lower case letters. We looked at 2D shapes and their characteristics, and labelled 3d shapes.

Year 2 have been enjoying learning about the Solar System.

This week we have been retelling the story ‘How to catch a falling star’. We wanted to know what a star was, we learnt lots of facts about the stars that we see in the sky. #lovescience

We learnt that the sun is a star,and is used to symbolise Jesus who rose again. That the sun rises in the east and sets in the west,we used a compass to find them. We looked at how our shadows change at different times of day and talked about opaque and transparent.

This week has been all about the moon. We read a book called ‘How to reach the moon’ and worked on difference sentence openers. We learnt about the different phases of the moon and why we see them. We learnt that on Earth we have only one moon and that it is a natural satellite.

Year4 came to read us the Mr Men stories that they had written. We loved them!

This week we talked about the symbolism of a rainbow in the story of Noah’s Ark. We worked with a partner to write about it using Google Docs.

This week we have learning about why it rains, the weather very kindly joined in😂🌧️. We learnt about the water cycle and how important it is to conserve water. We worked together to work out the best way to get a water source to where it was needed without wasting any.#teamwork

Year2 have been looking at connection between multiplication and repeated addition.

This week we have been learning about how clouds are made. We also learnt about the different types of clouds, what they are called, and what type of weather they bring.

We have been applying our knowledge of the 5 times table to play different games.

This week we have been learning about how to measure temperature. We learnt what freezing point and boiling point were, and that temperature can go into minus numbers.🥶

This week we read a book called ‘How to catch a rainbow’, about a girl called Freya who wished she had one of her own. We thought about what we would wish for ourselves and for the world. We sorted between facts and myths about rainbows. Then we made a rainbow for us to keep.

Our new topic is ‘Above and beyond’. We went to the Forest School and talked about what we would see and hear above us. Then we talked about what we thought was above us that we couldn’t see. The first question we wanted to explore was ‘why is the sky blue?’

This week we have been working on our racket skills. We worked on our coordination and accuracy whilst using shuttlecocks and balls.

We then combined our problem solving skills, addition skills and measuring skills. We chose a honey pot and had to work out what combination of measuring spoons would fill the jar. Then we checked our answers.

This week has been all about capacity. First we ordered containers from the one we thought held the least, to the one we thought held the most. Then we checked whether we were right by measuring how much each pot could hold.
