It’s the saddest news that is related to Abraham Accords, Rabbi #ZviKogan, the Chabad Emissary in the UAE 🇦🇪 has been mur*dered by possibly Iranian regime.

(Nazareth, btw, was an important Jewish city back then. Today it's mostly Arabic, from Iraqi Arabs immigrants in the 19th century come to work at the huge railway Ottoman project.)

At the time Jesus lived, Judea was under Roman rule, and the title "King of the Jews" had political implications. It suggested a challenge to Roman authority.

Many Jews expected a Messiah to be a political and military leader who would overthrow Roman oppression such as Bar Kochva. The Jewish establishment, divided between itself, didn't like him either. He preached peace and love, which led the Romans to catalog him as both a Jew and a seditious dissident.

So the Romans crucified Jesus, as they crucified hundreds of thousands of opponents, having snatched him from the celebration of the Passover Seder, which he scrupulously respected, as a religious Jew would (the Gospel also shows him as celebrating Hanukka "dedication").
