The shooting death of David Paris with a double-barreled shotgun by his mentally ill farmer father in law was a tragedy, but should not be held up as an example justifying wider gun restrictions. Folks with delusional disorders just shouldn't have guns

@Theblackfemini3 I have to admit I was a bit worried about this one after he completely missed the point of Animal Farm but I'm pleased to hear that he wants to bring Tolkien's world to the screen rather than Downtown LA with elves...
@taipan168 Ugh, well continued support for Ukraine is a non-negotiable policy position for me. I was happy to wait and see if One Nation could pull together a coherent economic policy, but I guess it's back to picking through the other trash or the vain hope that the Coalition find themself
@taipan168 This is a luxury that Tier I builders don't have, because they will often be delivering several concurrent projects with CFMEU members. Government self-imposes procurement rules limiting them to using Tier I contractors beyond a certain value, so the CFEMU will always come along
@taipan168 Exerting pressure in the CFMEU's style requires union members being told to down tools, which is a lot harder to do when there are no CFMEU members onsite. Developer-builders also tend to deliver one project at a time, so the CFMEU can't use EBA Site-A to pressure Non-EBA Site B
@taipan168 Those terms are imposed on Head Contractors up to 5 years in advance, so the costs are generally well understood by affiliated bidders. What'll be interesting to see is the price difference where an affiliated builder beats a cheaper non-EBA builder as a matter of public record
@taipan168 Note that the amendment also gives the QLD government the clearance to not use CFMEU-affiliated businesses to deliver Olympics infrastructure, although as I've previously suggested I would have concerns about the financial and operational capability of the unaffiliated builders
@taipan168 It looks pretty confronting when it's there in black and white, but it's probably unlikely to change the existing mix of contractors delivering Public Infrastructure or Public Buildings. Above a certain project value you can reasonably expect some sort of unionised workforce.
@DevinRedMac1@HLC_actual Thanks, I was a bit puzzled as to where such a strong lateral force would be coming from but you're probably right... If the mounting is off-centre then it's like paddling a canoe from only one side, except with rapid and potentially fatal consequences
