We honour the life and legacy of Nageswaran Kumarasami, a courageous leader from Sampur, Trincomalee who led the community's fight to reclaim their ancestral lands and for durable solutions. Facing immense personal risk, Nageswaran continued his activism and agitation, inspiring a movement that culminated in a historic victory in 2016.

We have valued Nageswaran’s engagement with us, informing our own research and advocacy on land issues. He was also a key ally in the numerous legal cases challenging the arbitrary land appropriation in Sampur. His determination, as seen in this clip from our 2016 documentary, was pivotal in the communities returning to their lands and rebuilding their lives. We honour his immense contributions and his enduring legacy.

Almost two centuries have passed since the Tamil Malaiyaha communities were brought to Sri Lanka. Since then, they have been contributing to the Sri Lankan economy, especially through the labour they provide to the tea industry in Sri Lanka to flourish. Despite their great contributions, these communities were never given significance, their rights were dismissed, their access to basic living standards were taken away. Yet, they were obliged to toil among the tea estates at a cheap wage.

Today I find myself back in Peru 🤍 But I almost didn’t make it here.

This past week has been tough in more than a few ways, and has served up what feels like too many reminders of how precious this little thing we call life really is.

As I head into my third climbing season here in Huaraz, I'm feeling a mix of emotions. In many ways I still feel the same excitement as if it were the first. But as our
dreams grow so do our objectives, so l'd say l'm also an equal mix of nervous.

But there's a familiarity here that goes beyond the peaks. The rhythm of the mountains, the warmth of the people, the quiet moments between summits... it all reminds me of home in the best possible way.

Last season, we were heavily focused on the climbs... and this season, well let's just say we hope to also be chasing light, stories, and the subtle truths only the mountains can reveal. I can't wait to share what I see, and feel through the lens ✨
