After 8 years, ED has decided to file a charge sheet against Mehul Choksi’s son - Rohan Choksi.

To move court to declare him a “fugitive economic offender (FEO)”.

This is the first time any formal legal action will be taken against Rohan Choksi, who is believed to be based in the US.

The former CEO of Samuels Jewels in US - Farhad K Wadia - sent a “sworn affidavit and statement” to ED by post, in which he claimed that Mehul Choksi asked him to rebrand the whole business of Gitanjali in the US under the name of Voyager Brands and told him that his son – Rohan Choksi – “is the ultimate boss of the group business in the United States”.

ED to also seek FEO tag against Mehul Choksi’s wife, Priti Choksi.

ED charge sheet says: Former RG Kar hospital principal, Dr Sandip Ghosh, gave all contracts of the institution to a cartel of firms owned by two individuals for which he charged 10-15% commission.

The alleged bribes, worth around ₹70 lakh in total for contracts worth ₹6.89 crore, was received in cash and deposited in the bank accounts by showing it as professional fee for providing services at private clinics.

Ghosh, according to ED, was associated with four private clinics which he was not supposed to do as his designation in RG Kar was a “non-practicising” position.

In light of reports of individuals circulating fake summons in the name of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the purpose of cheating or extortion, the ED (@dir_ed) has introduced measures to help citizens verify authenticity.

These fake summons often resemble genuine ED notices, making them difficult to distinguish.

To address this, ED now issues system-generated summons featuring a QR code and a unique passcode.

Summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate can be verified using the QR code printed on them or by visiting the official ED website.

The ED does not conduct digital or online arrests. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and not fall prey to fraudsters impersonating ED officials.

Praveen Kumar Kapoor, co-founder and promoter of realty firm SRS Group accused of cheating investors and banks of ₹2,200 crore, was stopped by the US authorities from entering New York based on an Interpol red notice and has been deported to India.

Kapoor, 62, a resident of Faridabad, along with two other promoter-directors of SRS Group - Jitender Kumar Garg, Sunil Jindal- had been absconding for the past several years and were said to be hiding in Georgia and Dubai.

ED initiated FEO proceedings against him.

Truly selfless champion of democracy and public causes.
