i used to have very strong political opinions. still do, in fact. my ideological convictions haven’t changed, but all the fervour i once had for politics is gone. i’m just thoroughly disillusioned with the whole thing. there’s no political party that sufficiently represents what i believe in, and at this point i can’t even be arsed to care because i don’t see any of it happening.

what’s funny is watching people my age discover revolutionary ideas for the first time and immediately start calling anyone who isn’t politically vocal an apolitical fuck. “apolitical people are trash”, “change starts with you” and all that. sounds great on paper, gets you clicks, makes you feel morally superior, but they’re still just statements unless there’s something material behind them.

and the funniest part is that i’ve been through that phase myself. i’m just a few years ahead in the cycle of political disillusionment. maybe they’ll eventually end up in the same apolitical hell as me, become complete doomers, or worse, get sucked into the bipartisan circus where both sides are more than happy to watch you get fucked over while convincing you that the other side is the problem.

i haven’t stopped believing in my ideals. i’ve just stopped believing that the political machinery is going to deliver any of them. and frankly, i no longer have the energy to pretend otherwise.
