This isn't 'governance' – it's the predictable rot when politicians and connected insiders treat public property (YOUR retirement funds) like their personal slush fund. Billions at stake, zero accountability, endless scandals.

Property rights mean nothing when the state asset manager can't even manage basic integrity. While they erode self-custody and private assets through overreach i.e. draft CFM regulations, their own house burns.

We strongly support Luno's submission against the proposed draft Capital Flow Management Regulations.

Cryptocurrency represents private property — individuals' voluntary holdings of digital assets that they have lawfully acquired.

These rules risk imposing unnecessary friction on everyday South Africans, stifling innovation, and driving activity offshore — all while the ageing exchange control framework desperately needs modernisation, not patchwork expansion via proclamation.

Crypto users are not criminals by default. Sound regulation should focus on clear AML/CFT rules without confiscatory overreach that treats citizens' property as state-controlled capital.

We urge @Treasury_RSA and the @SAReserveBank to heed Luno's concerns and prioritise a framework that respects property rights, encourages local fintech growth, and classifies onshore crypto holdings appropriately.
