Unit 1 Test tomorrow! One last hint before I look at Progress Checks—the key skill on the test is RULING OUT THE WRONG ANSWERS. Multiple answers may sound right at first, but go through each and see if you can get rid of it for any reason before trying to find the correct one.
Unit 1 Test tomorrow! In the theme of Human-Environment Interaction we struggled with modifications vs conversions. Remember when we modify it’s just a slight change, but when we convert something it’s a complete change. The images here show a conversion of Orlando, FL over time.
Unit 1 Test tomorrow! Here’s a couple images you’ll see on the test; see if you can think of how these could be used in a question and what the topic might be. Then ask yourself if you’re ready for those sorts of questions.
Unit 1 Test tomorrow! We discussed Wednesday not making irrational mistakes (choosing answers that cannot be correct); keep that in mind when questions come in groups of 2 or 3–how does the answer from one impact your thinking on the next one?
Unit 1 Test tomorrow! Few questions boil down to just a definition—you need to recognize examples & apply concepts. Can you think of an example (other than ones from class) for concepts like: Cultural Barriers, Types of Diffusion, Types of Regions, Relative / Absolute Location?
Unit 1 Test tomorrow! We saw MANY types of maps in the unit—you need to recognize each, know a pro & con for each reference map, & know what needs to remember for each thematic map. Over 1/4 of the test is reading maps, recognizing map types, or otherwise analyzing maps & scale.
Answers to previous post:
This is a Small Scale map as it shows a large area with small details (lakes, roads, cities too small to see).
The map is a National Scale as it shows one country.
The Scale of Analysis is Local as it analyzes data state by state, (smaller than a county)
Unit 1 Test tomorrow! The trickiest topic in the unit is Scale (Map Scale, Scale, and Scale of Analysis). Look at this map & see if you tell if it’s Large or Small Scale and if it’s Global, Regional, National, or Local in Scale and Scale of Analysis (answers in next post)
Unit 7 Test tomorrow! We did a good amount of pros and cons in this unit—be sure you can think of good AND bad things about New Urbanism, Gentrification, Primate Cities, and other concepts in the unit.
Unit 7 Test tomorrow! We had a lot of types of urban areas to remember. Be sure to revisit them and focus on their size and their economic importance (what they offer to people in their hinterlands). Knowing these helps Christaller make more sense.
Unit 7 Test tomorrow! This unit had a LOT of models & theories to review. Go revisit Christaller, Burgess, Hoyt, Multiple Nuclei, Galactic, Borchert, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Modernized Islamic City, Primate Cities, the Rank-Size Rule, & Bid-Rent Theory.
Unit 7 Test tomorrow! The questions we used in class today, as well as a bunch of other resources, are on Canvas in the Unit 7 Review Resources. We had some questions we struggled with a lot, like Site and Situation, so maybe take a read through those.
Unit 7 Test tomorrow! This won’t be the last assessment of the year, as you will have a final exam, but it’s the last one corrections will be available for. Make sure you are putting yourself into a good position to be successful.
Unit 6 FRQ tomorrow! I can’t give too specific of a hint, because you need to know your stuff. Be sure you know the models and theories from this unit, as well as the measures of development, though—those things are always good to know.
Unit 6 Test tomorrow! All of the review questions are from Unit 5, which means we’ve got to remember our Agriculture as well. We struggled on things like labor- v. capital-intensive ag, the Columbian Exchange, & reading questions carefully last time. Let’s get them all this time!
Unit 6 Test tomorrow! Some students said they hate reading tables and charts today—that’s a key skill for us, so plan on seeing 4 or 5 tables on the test. Read the data carefully as there’s often some outlier data that should catch your eye. There’s also 7 other visuals & 6 maps!
Unit 6 Test tomorrow! Be sure to go over the vocab we didn’t get to in class—about 10% of the test relates to those concepts. Depending on your class, we got to some of them during the review, but if you don’t know what they mean & how to apply them, you could struggle tomorrow.
Unit 6 Test tomorrow! Rostow was our biggest model this unit—be sure you know the gist of each stage, some examples of countries in each, how countries move through the model, & some things people like & dislike about the model. You should have ALL that info on 1 sheet of paper.
Unit 6 test tomorrow! This image WILL BE on the test. Look at each spot on the model and see if you can think of what type of industry it would be and examples of what products might come from those industries.
Unit 6 Test tomorrow! A BIG skill on this Progress Checks and the test is READING CAREFULLY. So often a key word in the question will help you find the right answer (economic, negative, environmental, etc). Be sure you read exactly what the question is asking for.
