Canada has suspended imports of cattle and other livestock from Texas after a second case of the flesh-eating New World screwworm was confirmed in the state.

The parasite's larvae feed on living tissue, causing severe wounds that can be fatal if left untreated.

Officials say the restrictions are designed to stop the pest from spreading north.
