I'm not yet what I desire to be, but Soli Deo Gloria —I'm not what I was! Still Canadian, though. I comment on (mostly dumb) things that catch my attention.
For lots of people, their “Christian faith” is something they tack onto life because it’s more reasonable than Leftist Nihilism.
For others, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has weight and meaning far beyond being socially acceptable in their circle of friends.
If your faith costs you nothing (Mark 8:34-38),
if it doesn’t mean a genuine love for the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:36, 14:15),
if your faith is fairweather (Matt. 13:5-7),
if your faith strictly experiential and focused on self-effort (Matt. 7:21-23),
Then what is your faith in Christ even for? What is it even worth?
Jesus isn’t a meme to share for laughs or to be “based” online. He’s God incarnate. And if you don’t recognize His as the King over all things, and Lord over all reality, then you’re completely missing the point of “faith” (Eph. 2:1-10).
Join a Christian Church that believes the above. Join a Church that is willing to tell you to repent and believe the Gospel, even if you think you already have.
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
— Matthew 3:2
Now after John had been delivered up into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
— Mark 1:14-15
And they went out and preached that men should repent.
— Mark 6:12
Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now commanding men that everyone everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He determined, having furnished proof to all by raising Him from the dead.”
— Acts 17:30-31
Helping the weak. Ending discrimination. Closing the wealth gap.
These are good and understandable goals.
Yes, big corporations and the ultra-rich have ended up concentrating too much wealth. That part is true.
But using that as an excuse to import aliens who destroy the society itself?
That’s not compassion. That’s a demonic crime against civilization.
This isn’t “making society better.”
It’s just dragging everyone down into shared misery.
That must be stopped at all costs.
A society where your daughter gets raped and the perpetrator walks free isn’t a human society.
It’s prehistoric savagery.
"Not honesty as virtue. Honesty as infrastructure. If he is variable, the network cannot route through him."
This is more profound than I can currently comprehend, but I can comprehend enough to know it's profound.
Maybe tomorrow Cliff will understand.
My guy quoted a price, finished early, and charged me less than the quote.
Less.
I assumed an error. I pointed at the number and said there had been a mistake.
He said, "Took less time than I thought."
He had estimated eight hours. It took five. He charged five.
I told him to keep the difference. He declined. I insisted. He declined again.
I then attempted to physically give him money, which I now understand was extremely strange, and he stepped backward.
He actually stepped backward. A grown man retreated from currency in a driveway.
He said, "I'm not gonna charge you for time I didn't work."
In my country a quoted price is a price. It has been agreed. If the work goes faster, that is the craftsman's reward for skill. Returning it would embarrass everyone present.
I asked if other men do this.
He said, "The good ones."
He has a category. Somewhere in his head there is a list of men who charge for hours they did not work, and he is not on it, and staying off it appears to be the organizing principle of his entire life.
Then he said the thing.
He said, "The whole thing only works if I'm the same guy every time."
The same guy every time.
That is the entire second economy in six words. Not honesty as virtue. Honesty as infrastructure. If he is variable, the network cannot route through him.
I asked what he does in a bad year when he needs money.
He said, "Work more."
Work more. Not charge more. There is one lever. He has never considered the other one exists.
I put the extra money in his truck later while he was loading tools.
He mailed it back.
He mailed it. He paid postage to return money I forced on him.
There was no note.
Has your guy ever charged you less than he quoted. I have a theory this happens constantly and nobody reports it.
And now I see Jason Kenney trying to regain some kind of political value. He is an unrepentant hypocrite and betrayer of whatever he claimed to be "conserving"... unless it was his own pride, power, and position he sought to conserve.
He lost it all.
May he repent in truth.
@SlowToWrite I still remember. I was a member of GLC for 14 years. I remember when they stole our building and sought us out on Sundays when we gathered in secret.
Even Christians just want to pretend it's all in the past. But what changed? Time passed; that's all. It *can* happen again.

"When you see...your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you—when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice—you may know that your society is doomed.

@hellogames I'm that one guy who plays NMS exclusively on Switch. Great game! Wish my computer could handle it!
Just wanted to say thanks for the fun game. I'm several years late to the party, and playing on a lacklustre platform (for something like this) but I'm enjoying it!
I worked in Edmonton's largest homeless shelter (located downtown) for ~6 years. I've seen/heard of many insane, sad depravities.
Yet I still see it wherever I go.
I don't know why my heart is not entirely desensitized. Sometimes I wish it had.
Or maybe it is more than I know.
For their first 6-8 months in office every election, every elected politician's salary should be the median for their constituency.
Unreasonable? List the reasons why.
