Hello, and welcome to the Twitter for Pride Squadron!
We are the informal affinity group for LGBTQIA+ members of the LFL-recognized Star Wars charity costuming clubs, specifically the Saber Guild, Rebel Legion, 501st, Dark Empire, Mandalorian Mercs, and Droid Builders.
Lando Calrissian, general, smuggler, businessman, gambler, and galactic pansexual icon. A long-held fan theory of this classic original trilogy Star Wars character was confirmed recently with a Pride variant cover of Marvel's STAR WARS #14, art by @StephenByrne86 .
Padmé and her handmaidens were such an inspiration to 14-year-old me, that girls could be beautiful, strong heroes. And then EK Johnston showed us that handmaidens could be caring, artistic, smart, leaders, and queer too! (thread)
In particular, Saché's journey from Naboo's youngest spy to a planetary legislator and then a resistance leader (thank you Greg Pak!) made me love her even more.
Going through everything I picked up during Celebration and happy that these cards survived the trip back home. I'm glad I was able to stop by the @PrideSquadron table. I wish I could have met everyone. ♥️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤎🤍
Juhani stuck out to me as someone who fiercely defended her boundaries and what--and who--was important to her. I was still figuring out my romantic orientation when I made this costume... (thread)
Vernestra Rwoh of the High Republic means so much for me. Not only is she a nickname-hating, high-strung yet gentle "gifted kid" somewhat confused at how she wound up ahead of her peers, but she is also on the asexual spectrum. (thread)
Doctor Aphra is the queer Asian disaster representation I never expected to get in pop culture and definitely not in Star Wars. Somehow, Aphra is here and she's queer and she might not have actually gotten her doctorate but that's a technicality ;) (thread)
I was also so excited when it was announced that @crashwong would be writing the new run of the Aphra comics. Alyssa has made it clear how much they care about the comic.

Seeing her work through her confusion about her own sexuality while being perplexed by the allosexual feelings of her friends in Justina Ireland's "Out of the Shadows" was a healing process for my inner teen.
... but I think that representation is subconsciously why I felt like I needed to add that particular leather cat suit to my costuming plans. Now that I'm more out, I still lean on my inner Juhani, who is uncompromisingly herself.

"Magna Tolvan was an Imperial officer - a rising star until her path crossed with Doctor Chelli Aphra. As Aphra repeatedly thwarted the Empire, Tolvan found herself demoted, threatened with execution and ironically falling in love with Doctor Aphra." (thread)
As the two explored their relationship, Tolvan's Imperial career came to a halt and she ended up joining the Rebellion.
I'm so grateful for all the queer representation in the Aphra comics, and I really resonate with Magna Tolvan's mindset and identity struggles.
Fab new stories set in the Star Wars world. I’m tagging the authors I know but please do QRT & tag others I’ve not managed to find. Some don’t allow to be tagged so do mention them.
She’s queer, but it is not her defining feature. She has her own ideals, morals and even contradictions, something I love to see in the Star Wars mythos."

"A canonically LGBTQIA+ character Star Wars that brings me joy is Sana Starros. She is a smuggler, first fully introduced in the Marvel Comic Star Wars #6 in 2015. She has been linked to Han Solo, Lando, and Star Wars most prominent LGBTQIA+ character, Dr. Aphra. ..."
"...She identifies as bisexual.
Sana is an example of a well-developed queer character of color. She has a personality that is not centered around her queerness. ..."
