The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this during an inspection of the hospital, where he assessed the newly installed MRI, CT scan, dialysis unit and Intensive Care Unit.
He said the 1.5 Tesla MRI is already operational, with a lumbar scan successfully conducted during the inspection, and is expected to be opened to patients by Wednesday next week. The service, he added, will be offered at regulated rates to make it more affordable.
Dr Onojaeme further disclosed that the CT scan and dialysis unit are functioning, while the ICU is about 90 per cent ready following the procurement of ventilators and is expected to become operational within the next two weeks.
He explained that beyond providing the equipment, the State Government is putting measures in place to sustain them, with 30 per cent of revenue generated from the MRI, CT scan and dialysis services to be retained as a revolving maintenance fund.
According to him, the arrangement will support continuous maintenance of the equipment and reduce reliance on government funding for their upkeep after the warranty period, ensuring that the investments continue to provide quality healthcare services to Deltans.
