Britain’s handling of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case stands in stark contrast to its own record of protecting its citizens and residents subjected to extraordinary rendition.
When Mazi Kanu, a British national, was abducted in Kenya in June 2021 and extraordinarily rendered to Nigeria, Britain could have deployed the same diplomatic channels it has used before to block his trial and compel Nigeria to return him to Kenya or even the UK.
Binyam Mohamed, a UK resident rendered to Guantánamo Bay after torture in Morocco, was brought home in 2009 after sustained Foreign Office negotiations with the US.
Bisher al-Rawi and Jamil el-Banna, British residents rendered to Guantánamo, were released and returned to the UK following years of FCO discussions with US authorities.
Even the botched extraordinary rendition of Umaru Dikko by Nigeria in 1984 drew the fiercest diplomatic response from Britain, to the point that Dikko was never tried in Nigeria, and Nigeria’s relations with Britain suffered severe setbacks.
More recently, Alaa Abd el-Fattah, a British-Egyptian dual national, was freed from Egyptian detention and returned to the UK after “intense diplomatic efforts” by London, with the Prime Minister personally prioritising his case.
In each instance, Britain treated rendition and unlawful detention of its own as a diplomatic priority—pressing allies, tying cooperation to consular outcomes, and securing repatriation.
Mazi Kanu’s case demanded no less. Instead, the UK offered only minimal consular visits while Nigeria pressed ahead with a trial that both the Nigerian Court of Appeal, a Kenyan High Court, and United Nations have condemned as rooted in an unlawful rendition.
Thus, diplomatic pressure of the kind applied for Mohamed, al-Rawi, el-Banna and Abd el-Fattah could have been used to insist that Nigeria halt the trial and return Mazi Kanu to Kenya or Britain.
The tools existed, but the diplomatic clout was lacking. Why?
BREAKING: From Sokoto, MAZI NNAMDI KANU addresses American Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) convention, currently holding in Atlanta USA, and declares that:
“I will not negotiate the existence of my people. I will discuss referendum and nothing else. My subject is one subject: the right of Biafrans to say, in a free vote, whether they will live as a people under their own roof. I am available for a referendum.”
#MnkAtlantaDeclaration. #AVID.
"Will the corrupt and dishonourable Judge James Omotosho, manufacturer of the law, tell us the law under which Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was convicted and given a life sentence?"

🚨All the pathetic world leaders came to UN General Assembly to discuss ISRAEL🤣
Not knowing ISRAEL is 10 years ahead of them🤔

Israel is not asking the world for permission to exist.
If leaders walk out when Israel’s prime minister speaks, they are making their own choice not to listen.

I HAVE NEVER GIVEN UP
ON THE LIBERATION OF SOUTHERN CAMEROONS (AMBAZONIA ) THE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES BY PAUL BIYA REGIME MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE WORLD ATTENTION -IF YOU HAVE A GOOD HEART RETWEET THUS TO REACH FAR
It’s a matter of public record that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has fulfilled all legal requirements of his appeal by filing his brief of argument, motion for accelerated hearing, and a bail application before the Court of Appeal.
Yet, the government has so far failed to file its reply brief, and the court is yet to schedule a date to hear either the substantive appeal or the bail application.
This systematic delay is tantamount to injustice. Personal liberty is a fundamental right. When the main appeal is intentionally stalled by the prosecution's inaction, the bail application must be treated as high-priority.
To be sure, keeping Mazi Nnamdi Kanu incarcerated without hearing his bail application amounts to a violation of his right to be heard within a reasonable time.
The Court of Appeal is therefore strongly urged to act now! Hearing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s bail application has now become more urgent than ever.
Soon Youm Kipur ( Day of Atonement) will start here in Israel. The streets are already empty. People are getting ready for the prayers at the Synagogues. It will be the only sound that we'll hear for the next 26 hours. We will all be focused in praying for God's forgiveness🙏🏽
I told you that some surprises will come. Wait for more🙏🏽 All hail Biafra. All hail Mazi Nnamdi Kanu 🙏🏽Isee isee iseeeeeee. It is always good to be on the right side of history.
Stop the Btitish hypocrisy. They fight for Palestine's freedom but refuse to free Biafra! Britain refuses to help its own citizen in jail. Practice what you preach! You want freedom for Palestine while you hold a whole nation hostage? Free Biafra and Mazi Nnamdi first!!!
