I shared my story about how I wanted to marry someone that was “broke”

And I saw a lot of comments highlighting the fact that “why was I trying to marry someone who didn’t have money”

I think it’s time I address this mindset a lot of ladies have

Oh Yes. I would have married the man if he treated me right

Because even though he didn’t have at the time, he was very hardworking. I’ll give him that. It was a only a matter of time I knew we could build together

Haven’t you seen men that had money before and even lost it later?

We don’t pray for that but things happen.

Will you then leave your home because you hit a rough patch?

Some of you treat men like tools. Tools to solve your financial problems. I don’t think this is fair

No wonder men treat us badly. Because for some of us as long as he has a house and then has a car??? You’re good to go

He can abuse you, cheat on you and disrespect you

But you prefer that? than to build with a young man who will treat you right but not be able to afford all the flashy things in the very moment

Some of us have younger brothers who are still in our parents house hustling. But you want to kill someone else’s son who just finished school and is hustling and we tag him “broke” because he has not reached the top yet

The hypocrisy and partiality is just ridiculous

I think we need to bring this balance

This is the mindset thing I keep talking about. Ladies too have terrible mindsets

Why can’t we work and make money too?

The guy went to school. You wen to school too

Why can’t we hustle too so no man can take you for granted just because he thinks he has a few bucks?

For me, marriage is all about partnership

We build

We grow

We hold each other’s hands through thick and thin.

He respects me, I respect him.

He’s not a tool for me to use and I’m not a tool either

We are two human beings, of equal value and deserving of love.

If this is not what’s gonna happen, I don’t want it.

She and her six siblings were raised by her grandmother whilst their parents were studying in Europe on scholarship.

By the time she was 9, she had learned to cook, fetch firewood, and manage the household.

The civil war in 1967 disrupted her education and exposed her to difficult times as she was eating one meal a day, saw children dying around her, and slept on the mud floor, so she had to learn how to live “economically” even as a kid.
