Andy Weir, the writer behind The Martian, built his reputation on grounded, science driven storytelling, and the novel’s success eventually led to a film adaptation starring Matt Damon that became both a critical and commercial hit.
He later wrote Project Hail Mary, another science fiction story centered on a lone astronaut tasked with saving Earth, blending suspense, humor, and detailed scientific problem solving, while continuing his signature focus on survival and human resilience under extreme conditions.
Like The Martian, the story quickly gained attention for its cinematic potential, and it has now been adapted into a film currently in theatres, with Ryan Gosling in the lead role, making it one of the most anticipated sci-fi releases in recent years.
The film opened to strong critical reception, with early reports noting a 95–96% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes and a worldwide opening weekend gross of approximately $141 million.
The script was written by Drew Goddard, who also penned the Oscar-nominated adaptation of The Martian.
