Some worry that agricultural automation will deepen inequality. But history tells us otherwise. Automation of ag jobs is a gradual process, which helps producers, including smallholders, allocate time for other activities, overcome labor shortages and create high-skilled jobs.
Countries must rethink agriculture to transform traditional farming activities into a competitive industry. Politics-driven ag subsidies should be repurposed toward ag R&D, biosecurity, infrastructure programs to create jobs and diversify income sources for rural populations.
