Lots of EV news out of Toyota this morning. First, & perhaps most importantly, Toyota & Subaru have announced a joint venture to develop a Class C SUV BEV platform, with each company creating their own vehicle from the platform. This is a small part of "Aiming to Popularize BEVs"
With the announcement of the 2026 BZ, you can see all of their behind the scenes efforts coming to fruition. 314 miles of range, 338 HP, fast charging, a quality, beautiful interior. And components that I've had a Tesla engineer tell me are 10 years ahead of the market.
People have been knocking Toyota's EV approach for years without understanding it. They weren't willing to lose gobs of money on EVs. They weren't willing to put their customers in cars with half-ass batteries for the sake of range. (1/2)
Asked what was behind the calculus in a one-month reprieve on auto tariffs on Mexico and Canada, Karoline Leavitt says Trump’s expectation is for the three largest auto makers to shift production before the reciprocal tariffs kick in April 2. “He told them that they should get on it.”
I've had it trying to contact @Lexus dealerships directly. Received nothing but runaround. If anyone has a contact at a Lexus dealership, preferably on the East Coast, message me. I'm ready to buy.
This has been a terrible experience so far.
Every RAV4 is going to have a 25% tariff on top of the MSRP come January, according to this guy. That will bring the price of a RAV4 Prime base up to $55,000 for American buyers.
@SpeedSportLife Had the Prius as a rental for a week and it took me a couple of days to finally figure out how the hell the engineers expected me to posture myself in the seat to see the whole gauge display.

In case you haven't noticed, momentum for EVs in the marketplace is all but dead, while hybrid interest has skyrocketed. PriusChat traffic is headed back to where it was when gas was $4 a gallon nationwide.

I finally did it. I got fully out of $TSLA. Sold all my shares.
I go into details as to why in the article below, but the main reasons are:
- I don't see Tesla as being aligned with the original mission, which was the main reason I invested in the company: to accelerate the advent of electric transport. To be clear, I think Tesla was very successful in this mission, I just don't think that going forward it is a priority for the company.
- I don't trust the leadership anymore, especially Elon Musk and the board of directors.
- There was a big talent exodus at Tesla in the last few years and talent is what makes a company great - to be fair, there are still a lot of great people at Tesla, just lot fewer.
- I feel unaligned with the TSLA shareholder base. When you feel unaligned with your fellow shareholders, you have two options: try to get them on your side or sell. I tried the former and failed.
- Unreleated to Tesla but still a factor: I see signs of a recession coming and I want to be more liquid in case it's a bad one.

I complain a lot about lack of public investment and infrastructure but the biggest thing holding EV adoption back is probably insufferable EV owners/fans.
20% of Tesla's gross profit is from regulatory credits. This means that the other manufacturers (ie Toyota) accounted for 1/5 of Tesla's profits. We haven't seen a number that high since back before they had any cars widely available (early Model S days).
Disaster.
@Robby_DeGraffAP@SpeedSportLife One interesting angle to highlight would be how in the world Honda gets away with increasing the cost of the Odyssey to the point where it's within $1,000 of the similarly spec'd Sienna. I'm gonna guess it's due to the scarcity of the Sienna, but paying $42k for the EX-L is crazy
@Robby_DeGraffAP Robby, you know this isn't a new generation. It's simply a light mid cycle refresh. You're not gonna see drivetrain changes mid cycle.
And @SpeedSportLife , the wait-list for the Sienna should tell you that hybridization is high on buyers lists.
@GaytonaUSA I know there are many forums where this sort of response is encouraged, if not taught. It's not helpful for anyone, including the stakeholders in the forum because of SEO potential.
I've actively worked against this atmosphere at PC & hope you never came across it on a visit.
