My dearest darling Scarlett,

I’m putting this here not for attention or sympathy. I want this to be immortalized in a way. Paper degrades, gets lost and damaged, our minds and memories eventually fade but data can be eternal. Since we are part of a universe and reality we still don’t understand, I hope that maybe this could somehow reach you through the aether.

A few weeks ago, Doctors had concerns for the pregnancy and your health. You were too small for how far along we were and we didn’t know why. After all the tests they did things were looking up. That is until the date of this letter. We went into our appointment and discovered we could not find a heartbeat. We were terrified.
The ultrasound confirmed it.
Your beautiful little heart gave out.
Our world shattered
We don’t know what happened. We might not ever know. Maybe you were just too small to survive. Nature and perhaps God just couldn’t do it for you.

With everything that has happened please know this is not your fault or anyone else’s. This is the reality we are a part of and these things just happen.

Even though you never had a chance to experience the wonders of life and the beauty of the world, the world experienced the incredible beauty of you, my lovely Scarlett. You had a critical effect on the world around you especially on your mother and I. Your mother and I spent every waking moment thinking about you and making sure you could have everything you wanted and needed. I spent hours day dreaming about you, being excited to hold you for the first time, wondering and being excited of what you would be interested in, thinking of what I could teach you to make your life better than my own, I couldn’t wait to guide you through life and I couldn’t wait to show you how incredible and amazing the world is, but mostly I couldn’t wait to show you how much your mother and I loved you. Even though you could never know, your mother and I loved you fiercely. We loved you so so dearly. You were the physical existence of our love for each other and the embodiment of how much your mother and I loved you. You made us happier than we could have ever imagined possible. That happiness you’ve brought to us will never fade. It is only clouded at the moment by sadness, grief and mourning. But you shine so bright in our hearts and the happiness you brought us will subdue our grief. And we will continue on with our beautiful Scarlett in our memories.

And now, with the love you inspired in us, the thought of the memories we would have created, the time we would have shared, the life you didn’t get the chance to experience, and with all the love your mother, our families, and I have for you…
