This is a huge development. The Warriors have A LOT more flexibility now for pursuing LeBron James AND Anthony Davis, which as I reported last night is their plan.
The opt-out comes days after the Warriors said they expect Green to pick up the $27.7M option. Instead Green delivers Golden State time and space to pursue Davis with the Wizards and convince James to join Stephen Curry, Green and his old Lakers championship teammate in the Bay.

The problem is the lack of nuance and precision: 10 finals appearances now are equal or greater than winning everything 6 times… 2 three-peats.
What they end up doing is oversimplifying accomplishments for MJ while amplifying others for LBJ.
That’s the problem.
It’s very easy to reduce MJ to just 6 rings…
It’s 2 three peats, 10 scoring titltes, being the best player everytime it matter the most, never choking in the biggest stage… not only about the offense, but the defense… the clutchness.
Yup.
Just that.
Hitting the playoff game tying 3 to force OT in the same game you threw an alley oop to your literal son is more impressive in and of itself than 6 rings.
NBA teams full of veterans stars will be in the play-in tournament.
No veteran can carey the work load of 82 regular season games and have a good winning record, specially in the west.
The Problem for the @Warriors is not the lack of superstars… is the age of the ones they already have.
They need 1-2 talented young guys that can play and be realiable / healthy.
The Golden State Warriors are anticipated to make a hard pursuit to acquire LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard during the upcoming offseason 😳
"Could the Warriors’ best and brightest option this offseason really be going hard to land either Kawhi Leonard or LeBron James? I think it might be."

Potential framework for a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade between the Bucks and Warriors:
Bucks: Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, Will Richard, 2026 1st, 2028 1st, 2030 1st, 2031 swap, 2032 1st
Warriors: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyle Kuzma, Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Should the Warriors bring back Andrew Wiggins?
Jonathan Kuminga is finally trade-eligible, but the league reaction has been quiet. No bidding war. Mostly lowball offers built around late picks and filler, and Golden State clearly isn’t interested in that. Miami Heat have been one of the few teams linked to real interest in JK.
That’s why this move actually makes sense: Kuminga for Andrew Wiggins.
The money works cleanly, and more importantly, the fit is already proven. Wiggins knows this system. He was a key piece of the title run, defended elite wings, thrived next to Stephen Curry, cut at the right moments, and knocked down open shots without needing the ball. Steve Kerr trusts him, the locker room chemistry was there, and there’s no learning curve.
From the Warriors’ side, this is about certainty. You get a proven playoff wing who fits the culture, stabilizes the rotation, and helps you win now without development questions or distractions.
For the Heat, Kuminga brings youth and athletic upside, a piece that fits alongside Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro if they want more explosiveness moving forward.
It’s not flashy. It won’t break the internet. But for a team trying to contend, it’s smart, clean, and practical.
So honestly… who’s saying no?
