Squats = brainpower! 🏋️♂️🧠
A 2023 study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that one minute of half-squats every 20 minutes preserved cerebral blood flow.
Squatting also improved executive function and boosted self-reported concentration while reducing mental fatigue.
Action plan: Break up sitting with 10 squats every 20 minutes. Then lightly stretch.

Visceral fat is a health marker I’m really interested in right now.
It’s unique because unlike subcutaneous fat, it behaves like an endocrine organ, driving inflammation, insulin resistance, and fatty liver. Long term, higher visceral/abdominal fat is associated with earlier mortality and higher cancer risk, even in people with a normal BMI. It negatively affects our short-term energy levels and mood too.
It’s also highly responsive to lifestyle. Moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise is the most reliable lever (even without weight loss), but lifting helps. Being in a calorie deficit is key to losing visceral fat. Diet quality (less ultra-processed/refined carbs) and sleep/stress are also incredibly important for not gaining visceral fat. Sleep loss elevates visceral fat within weeks, even with minimal weight gain.
A reminder that a number on the scale isn’t the full picture when it comes to healthy weight management.
