Some Product People get so wrapped around the wheel of outputs and processes and make blanket statements about how to do product and what to use - when we need to understand the principles of product and how to work those for users and the business. #principles are in thread👇

@onejasonknight This thread is 🤌
- A “reskin” of the site 🙄
- We need our “own CMS” because there aren’t better ones we can buy 🫣
- Reporting dashboards, from scratch ⌚️
- Expanding into a new market we know nothing about 💸
When we talk about trade-offs in a product, no matter if it’s #design, #tech, or some other area, we have to consider the #risk we’re introducing with the trade-off and determine if that risk is larger or smaller than what we get with the trade-off. #prodmgmt#tradeoff
I’d say do what feels right for you.
FWIW - I hyphenated for several reasons, but the main reason was for my kids. My single mom dealt with so much drama having a different last name than me. And as a mom of Bi-racial girls, I have enough people assuming they’re not my kids that I need whatever proof I can get. The hyphenated last name helps.
@onejasonknight I’ve had conversations with budding PM’s who think it’s all strategy. When in reality, in many places, we’re lucky to “do strategy.” The point of my work/messaging is that if you know the principles of product, strategy is always in reach, if only mentally. It can’t be either or.
This week we discuss Product Performance, its importance, and what measurements can become the focus without tracking meaningful Product Performance. #prodmgmt#engineering

@paulisthrivving @ianharveyOT Good feedback. While it’s not called out explicitly, user problems and hypotheses should be weighed/validated against business needs and strategy. This is part of product viability.
#prodmgmt Twitter can be an exhausting space at times for #productpeople - step away when you need to. Your job is probably not here, it is with your product/s and your users.
