Hunt Chancellor, Gove Home Sec, Rishi PM. Wallace Defence . Health anyone but Coffey. Unity government representing all factions; agree the others should be accommodated too but no experience. Get @RoryStewartUK in as foreign secretary too. Would stand a credible chance and GE.

Energy price support package will now be universal for just six months, not two years. Targeted after that. Says new chancellor Hunt. Cut of 1p in basic rate of tax is cancelled for foreseeable future. I’ve never known a u-turn like it. The public finances must be in such mess!

The chancellor has reversed more than £32bn of tax cuts. And there are public spending cuts to come. The scale of Truss’s and Kwarteng’s mini budget irresponsibility - as demonstrated by today’s u-turn - is like nothing we’ve seen in the UK for 50 years.

@JujuliaGrace For as long as accept solutions as binary, we will never move forward with NHS. It’s services levels will continue to demolish. NHS needs reform and ideology is getting in the way. It might be free but it’s not a fair service.

@theveindoc It’s a question of incentives. Contract drives behaviour, healthcare is not immune. Let’s see a greater role for innovative data led private companies in healthcare, not just the monolithic private hospitals with large NHS contracts.

At last a credible position. We may not like the message, we may not like him but he at least he has a credible plan to get us out of this mess (and we can move away from this ideological nonsense). Now we need equal honesty about #Brexit

Only one member of the Cabinet has changed but what we’ve seen is a complete transformation in economic policy in only 24 hours-a different govt. From tax cutting to tax rising, from anti-austerity, to cuts. Truss ran to be the antithesis of Sunak, she now governs as Sunak+++.

I struggle to understand why nurses don’t get the support they deserve. It’s difficult to argue against any of this…. The NHS needs re-inventing!

And this is before you factor in the additional cost of pension contributions!! Our nurses take home pay went DOWN after their supposed pay rise… shocking.

@clarelouisekc She’s awesome; it’s the quality of public services that’s important, not how they’re owned. She’s not shackled by left wing dogma, but focused on outcome. We all want clean water, timely trains and energy security..but that’s not left wing enough for Owen.
