AIPC | LGBTQIA+ Domain

The strength of the LGBTQIA+ movement has always been in local, grassroots organizing against the structures that prevent our community members from leading full and equal lives. This week, Don Hasar, National Coordinator for Community Engagement and Movement Building, AIPC LGBTQIA+ Domain, led a discussion with trans men, trans women, non-binary people, members of the Kinnar and Hijra communities, and other queer people in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

These communities are suffering as a result of the changes brought about by the Modi government’s Transgender Amendment Act, 2026. Queer people are anxious about their inheritance rights, identity documents, healthcare, welfare and legal recognition. Don explained how this new law can shut people out of not one, but many institutions that structure their everyday lives. Through engagements with the community, the AIPC LGBTQIA+ Domain hopes to bring greater legal and political clarity, collective care and solidarity with queer communities. Their fight is not theirs alone. The Indian National Congress stands together with them every step of the way.

Also present at the meeting was Naveen Kumar, the AIPC LGBTQIA+ Domain’s Deputy State Head for Jharkhand. We thank Souvik Saha and the entire team at Jamshedpur Queer Circle for hosting this interaction, and doing important work for the community in the state.

AIPC Civil Society & Policy Research | DCC Hyderabad

On the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi ji, Hyderabad DCC President Syed Khalid Saifullah and AIPC Civil Society & Policy Research Head Navika Harshe, facilitated a special interaction with Captain Syeda Selva Fatima, the first female pilot captain from Hyderabad’s Old City.

Citing Fatima ji’s remarkable journey, Khalid Saifullah emphasised the importance of encouraging girls to pursue careers in fields traditionally dominated by men, from engineering and aviation to law and beyond. Girls must be given not just the encouragement to dream, but the opportunity and support to turn those dreams into reality.

AIPC, in collaboration with Hyderabad DCC, also announced a series of seminars to bring citizens, professionals and policy voices together for meaningful conversations on issues shaping Hyderabad and India.

AIPC | Telangana State | Gig Workers

AIPC Facilitates Dialogue Between Gig Workers and Labour Ministry

AIPC Telangana facilitated a dialogue between app-based gig workers and the Labour Ministry, helping address a pressing concern over incentives for drivers and gig workers.

Following the Telangana App-Based Drivers’ Forum (TADF)’s call for a statewide bandh on August 8, AIPC Telangana State President Dr. Aditya Gillella, along with AIPC State Head for Gig Workers Shri Syed Abdul Rawoof and Deputy State Head Architect Bharat Reddy, met Hon’ble Labour Minister Shri G. Vivek to raise the concerns of app-based drivers.

The Minister assured the delegation that the government would look into the issues related to incentives being provided by app-based companies to gig workers and drivers.

With the government committing to examine the matter, TADF called off the statewide bandh, demonstrating how constructive dialogue can help bridge the gap between citizens, workers and government.
