Beetroot is a cultivated hybrid. It was developed through selective breeding and does not exist in this form in nature. As a result, its oxalic acid content and certain antinutrient compounds can interfere with mineral absorption in the gut, particularly calcium, iron and magnesium, minerals the modern body is already deficient in.

What I discovered through direct experimentation is that the African wild potato, Hypoxis hemerocallidea, when dried and combined with beetroot, fundamentally changes this dynamic. The saponins in the wild potato interact with the gut lining in a way that reduces the binding effect of beetroot’s antinutrients.

The beta-sitosterol and rooperol create an antioxidant rich digestive environment where the beetroot’s nitrates convert more efficiently to nitric oxide, the compound that opens blood vessels and improves circulation.
