Research & Prototype Foundry, a #USYD Core Research Facility, was delighted to welcome a visit by Mitsubishi Electric and Austrade (the Australian Government’s agency for promoting trade) led by USYD’s PVC Research Prof Benjamin Eggleton. It was aimed at fostering research collaboration in advanced, intelligent and sustainable technologies, building on strong Australia-Japan business and innovation partnerships.

The promise of cleaner, more stable lasers for quantum machines, GPS or next-gen comms: #USYD team has carved ‘speed bumps’ – nanoscale Bragg gratings – inside chip-scale Brillouin lasers to banish parasitic noise, boosting output power and coherence.
Big props to Research & Prototype Foundry – a #USYD Core Research Facility – for making it possible.

Great dinner in Newtown tonight as we farewelled Paul Newman after seven years at the University of Sydney and exceptional leadership of our Clinical Trials team. A fantastic colleague and steady presence in our leadership group. All the best, Paul — hope to keep seeing you.
Researchers at the University of Sydney have demonstrated a new way to suppress noise in microchip-scale Brillouin lasers by introducing nanoscale “speed bumps” inside the devices’ optical cavity.

I’m pleased to share our latest invited review article just published in Optica's journal Optical Materials Express: “Integrated nonlinear photonics with chalcogenide glasses: compositions, properties, applications, and roadmap.” https://t.co/KJrpeXO9CR
Great to be out and about with wonderful @Sydney_Uni colleagues - at the NSW Premier’s prizes for Science and Engineering - congratulations to the winner
Great session today at the @NSWsensing (NSSN) Board meeting, hosted at the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist here in Sydney. Always energising to sit around the table with such a sharp group of thinkers from industry, government and our member universities.
