Can’t believe UK abstained in the UN Security Council vote for a ceasefire in Gaza and the US used it’s veto. It’s scandalous.

#amwritingfiction #dementia #mentalhealth #bipolar Finally got the review copies of my novel. Now sending them out for reviews and endorsements before publication next spring. Very excited.

#dementia #carers #alzheimers check out Meeting Points. Around 55 community spaces in UK for people with early to mid stage dementia. Social and stimulating activities with no stigma

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

#carers if you think someone has #dementia go to the GP for a diagnosis. Life will not be over but more help like personal budgets for #care and support from Admiral Nurses will be available. .@DementiaUK #alzeihmers

[Patti LaFleur @carepatti]

A dementia diagnosis does not mean your life is over. It just means things may be different, but there can still be love, joy and connection.

.@Ageing_Better great piece of work. Would be good to do the same for ageing characters and characters with dementia in novels. Latter very rare. My forthcoming novel TheUnravelling deals with dementia #dementia #amwriting #amwritingfiction #alzeihmers

[Ageing Better @Ageing_Better]

Older characters are underrepresented in British films, with only 1 in 10 older characters involved in major plotline.

This paper looks at older characters in British films over the last decade, how often they're included and how they're portrayed.

@authorAnnC Well done on this review. I hope my for th coming novel The Unravelling that deals with dementia and mental health can do as well as you have

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

.@bpHopeMag on #WorldBipolarDay I want people to know we’re not all the same with just manic highs and deep depressions. We have many other varying symptoms like rapid mood cycles, noise intolerance, excessively distressing emotions #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #bipolar

[bphope for bipolar @bphope4Bipolar]

#WorldBipolarDay is coming up…What do you wish the world knew about bipolar disorder?

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

Agree. Some diagnoses have more stigma attached than others like personality’s disorder and it can be very distressing when diagnosed. It helps if a professional dispels our own misconceptions so we can do likewise for others. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness

[James Davies 💭 @JDaviesPhD]

I wonder if you're more likely to promote the virtues of psych-diagnosis if you identify with one of the now more socially acceptable labels (e.g. high-functioning autism or ADHD), compared to people assigned highly stigmatising labels (e.g. the PDs/Schizos). What do you think?

Breathing is my life and it has saved my life. There are some great short breathing meditations on the Buddify app. Also Jon Kabat-Zinn’s amazing “…Catastrophy…” book

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

Also not arguing, challenging, confronting when your loved one misremembers or gets things wrong. Just reinforce and reassure with positive language #dementia #dementiaawareness #Alzheimers #carers

[Dementia Friends @DementiaFriends]

❌ Words or phrases that belittle people can have a negative impact on confidence and self-esteem and contribute to the stigma associated with dementia.

✔️ Positive language - words and phrases that empower, can challenge stigma and help make people feel valued and included.

Playing around with how to schedule tweets. Any suggestions how best to do this?

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

have joined Buffer and connected my Twitter. Will soon have Facebook page for forthcoming novel The Unravelling so can use Buffer to schedule posts to both. Seems good #amwriting #amwritingfiction

I have multiple mental health diagnoses and getting travel insurance is a nightmare. Trailfinders offer excellent policy. You don’t need to declare a condition if you don’t want to be insured for that specific illness. All else covered. #mentalhealth #mentalillness #bipolar

[Survivors against PD #StopSIM #StopOxevision @SurvivorsNotPD]

MH Professionals need to think about the wider implications of giving someone this deathly diagnosis. Travel insurance, life insurance, family court processes, child custody battles, access to clinical trials, visiting places like America …oh yes this list goes on and on…

This might help those with anxiety. Also dementia sufferers as music can be very soothing. #anxiety #anxietyrelief #dementia #DementiaCare #AlzheimerResources

@HelenBevan There is hope. I’ve suffered for 30 yrs. with drugs and therapy I cope. Use PRN meds as soon as you feel psychosis creeping up to nip it in the bud. My quetiapin usually works. I’ve had a career and having first novel published so you can live. But it felt like hell at first.

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

I never used to talk because I thought others had it worse and I was just weak. My therapist taught me 2 lessons ‘compare leads to despair’ and self judgement adds another layer of distress. So TALK #mentalhealth #MentalHealthMatters #mentalillness #bipolar

[Rethink Mental Illness @Rethink_]

💬 New research shows that 46% of people have fewer conversations about mental health because everyone is struggling right now and they don't want to burden others.

On #TimeToTalk Day, share this post to show that no one is a burden.

[Jane Harrigan @ProfJaneH @ProfJaneH]

And looks you in the eye + talks with your partner and care worker if you have one. Also doesn’t just medicalise and only rely on drugs. Luckily mine is great #mentalhealth #MentalHealthMatters #mentalillness #bipolar
