The “3-team final” idea comes from misunderstanding the group qualification stage.

But knockout football is always:
👉 One match
👉 One winner
👉 One loser

48 teams → Group stage
Then teams qualify into a Round of 32

From there it becomes simple:

32 → 16 → 8 → 4 → 2 → FINAL 🏆

The World Cup will expand to 48 teams.

But the knockout stage still follows a normal structure.

No changes to how the final works.

There will NOT be a 3-team final in the World Cup.

Here’s how it actually works

48 teams start in the tournament
→ 32 advance from the group stage
→ Then it becomes a normal knockout format:

Round of 32 → Round of 16 → Quarter-finals → Semi-finals → FINAL

The final will ALWAYS be 2 teams.

The “3 teams” confusion comes from the group stage qualification idea, not the knockout stage.
