Zimbabwe's impact on South Africa's economy is so wild that, if it went away today, it'd cause unemployment in South Africa to rise by a full 4%.
This is out of a study we've just concluded for a multinational that's looking to "diversify risk" out of SA.
Last year Zimbabwe sent US$4 billion to South Africa for official imports.
That's roughly equivalent to A THIRD of South Africa's total exports to her largest trading partner (China: ~US$12 billion. Not bad for a country (Zim) of only 16 million people,
It's also roughly 1% of South Africa's entire GDP for 2025 that was exported to Zim, officially.
The actual total Zim spent on imports from SA is about US$7 billion, since smuggled goods from South Africa are conservatively calculated to be about ¾ of official imports in value.
During the same period, South Africa imported only ~US$400 million in Zim goods.
Already, some South Africa companies are being impacted so heavily they're begging @CyrilRamaphosa's @MYANC to batten down the hatches & impose illegal protectionist measures on Zim👇
Dinson Steel in Zim has led to the shutdown of ArcelorMittal SA. Sunny Yi Feng's tiles out of Zimbabwe have seen Italtile crying foul after their turnover was impacted heavily.
If Zim's useless @Min_of_IC were to take the China/Singapore approach to Industry/Commerce that I've been advocating for years now, it'd be catastrophic for SA, @edmnangagwa@MthuliNcube01@matigary@Mavhure@mimmitwit
There’s no foreigner who wants to stay illegal in a foreign country, the system failed it said it 2 years ago, we have foreign doctors who have been waiting for over 10years waiting for work permit but currently contributing in the healthcare sector, @HomeAffairsSA it’s your fault…SA must fix the systems not discriminate African nationals it’s barbaric, it’s inhumane.
But guys let's be honest! How could the police in uniform allowed this such harassment happens in their watch? Where blacks are being brutally abused by hooligans😭
[POLICE ACT AGAINST THE ATTACK OF ITS MEMBER DURING A MARCH IN MIDDELBURG]
The Police in Mpumalanga acted decisively against the attack of a Lieutenant Colonel during a march involving about 2000 participants in Middelburg on Tuesday, 09 June 2026. Nkazimulo Mabena (31) who has since been released with a R5000 bail by the Middelburg Magistrates Court facing a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, took his chances but was arrested together with another suspect arrested for theft after allegedly engaging in looting.
Members of SAPS and other law enforcement agencies were deployed to monitor and ensure public safety during the event.
In the afternoon of the said day, some protesters reportedly became unruly. One group is said to have entered a residential complex (flats) and engaged in searches. It was during this period when the police officer was reportedly assaulted and sustained injuries while trying to maintain order. Without hesitation, police acted immediately and stamped its authority by arresting Nkazimulo for the assault of the member.
Protesters are continuously urged to refrain from violence and criminality.

A security officer from the Venda community working for SBV was reportedly asked to produce his ID by a group of Zulu-speaking people after they questioned his nationality because he could not speak Zulu fluently.
The incident has sparked debate about identity, language, and the treatment of South Africans from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Many have pointed out that not speaking a language perfectly does not determine whether someone is a South African citizen.
