United like the 21-year-old, whose claims have been pushed forward by Bruno Fernandes, and it's understood he is keen to make the move.

The biggest hiccup is West Ham's demands.

West Ham United intend to set an asking price of £80million ($108m) for midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The relegated club need to raise £150m this summer and Fernandes is one of their most saleable assets. The Portugal international joined for £38m last summer from Southampton, who negotiated a 15 per cent sell-on fee.

Manchester United are interested in signing the 21-year-old, having held talks over a potential fee and wages. Paris Saint-Germain are also among his suitors.

West Ham are yet to receive any approaches for Fernandes.
