We aren’t going anywhere.
We hope you’ll stay with us to advocate for and amplify reconciliation in our school systems, end child poverty, and continue to protect public education in Manitoba.

"When schools offer universal free meals, hungry kids eat. They also have better academic performance, behavior, attendance, and psychosocial functioning. These benefits should be available to all — with no questions asked."

And to think they could have been announcing a similar program for Manitoba's students: Minnesota Passes Universal School Meals Program #AnotherWorldIsPossible#MbPoli#MbEd

Another world is possible. With the right leadership and pressure from the public, there's no reason why Manitoba students couldn't have this. #MbPoli#MbEd

They can't possibly be this bad at math. They know that these rebates are regressive. This government has shown over and over again that they govern for the wealthy. When you run the numbers on virtually every policy it disproportionately benefits the priviliged. #MbEd
The top 10% of rebate cheque recipients, which includes large corporate property holders and billionaires, received four times more than the bottom 10%.
Who was this meant to benefit again?
The Regressive Conservatives have learned NOTHING from the overwhelming backlash against Bill 64. Critics overwhelmingly pointed out the impact that MB leads all the provinces in child poverty, yet they choose regressive policies that give $ to families earning$175K #MbEd#MbPoli
The CCPA notes that a one time rebate cheque "will not address Manitoba’s persistently high child poverty rates."
It is important to ask what the province is doing to address child poverty inside and outside of schools.

The cost of not properly investing in public education is mind blowing. Continued austerity is fiscally reckless. Never mind the lost potential of the next generation.

The province to announced $2M in funding for student learning and supports.
This is not a lot of money, and most of it is being used outside of the classroom.
This is a tactic to distract from the lack of support and funding for a system under strain.

In response to this, Chicago Public Schools locked teachers out of online school resources and elected to cancel classes instead of providing remote instruction, no doubt in an attempt to muddy the waters and portray this as a strike, which it wasn't.
Solidarity to the teachers.
Chicago teachers voted to go remote due to 24% positivity.
Winnipeg is double that, at 48%, and our testing system has completely collapsed.
This was a courageous decision made for safety, and it's one that @mbteachers should consider if conditions don't improve by the 17th.
The results of tonight's citywide electronic ballot are in. Starting tomorrow, all CTU members at CPS schools should be working remotely. The result of tonight's vote was 73 percent in favor of the remote-work-only job action.
@inkedcarpenter @travelchick7676 We're reasonably sure that Manitoba has no mechanism to recall a Premier or a government. A majority government can only do it themselves.
Today's education announcement was a complete abdication of responsibility from the Manitoba government, and it's time for either key personnel changes or new elections. 🧵
One week of remote learning is a cruel joke of a response to Omicron running wild throughout Manitoba.
If the Manitoba government has lost its appetite to fight the pandemic, they should ask the Lieutenant Governor to dissolve the Legislature and hold new elections in order to find a new government with the stomach for it.
At this point, it is not clear whether the fault lies with Cabinet, the Premier, or Public Health for our disastrous response to Omicron. It is time for the government to insist that public health officials execute their duties, or, failing that, tender their resignations.
