@browndwarf6 Everybody could go buy and support a game and publishers will still sit on the IP or destroy the original team behind it. It genuinely means nothing. Better to just support things you really care about.
Corn is just a default "male civilian" sprite which is probably just for budgetary reasons and him being not that important.
But I like to think it's cuz Rance cannot differentiate anyone in his head if they're not a woman.

Talking piece of Jell-O aside, it'd honestly probably be less weird if maybe it came off more like a mysterious being.
But it's name is Frank (sorry, Phrangque* lol), it's voice is just regular Jack Quaid, and he's laughably bumping into enemies while you're fighting.
All the examples you brought up are either direct references to Greek/Norse myth, or are inspired enough that they feel right in place within the setting.
I think a sentient piece of Jell-O called Frank is a reasonable bit of jumping the shark.
God of War is a fantasy franchise in which you confront Gods of various mythologies, has a talking decapitated head, wield ever burning blades chained to your arms, and throw an axe retrieved by a telekinesis.
But sure, go on, tell me how a Gelatinous Cube doesn't fit.
@Ada2987_art Back when the screenshots leaked on Twitter before getting announced, there were a lot of people who already were feeling like something was a bit AI-adjacent about the visuals.
That says something about how "unseen" genAI is in the final product.
I don't know how to stop this issue. Mighty bold to assume anyone alone can. But I do know that speaking up and not giving money/coverage to products that contain it is about the baseline of what we should do. Uplift creators who deserve support. That's all we can do.
After some meditation, my own answer to my question is that we simply have to try and have faith in those that are worth supporting. Steam is at least doing a good thing with mandating AI disclosure.
If you know AI was involved, don't support. That's all you can do.
I feel like I'm annoying to all my followers for how much I go on a rant about generative AI in gaming being an issue but it just fucking saddens me and I have to vent. I love this medium so much.
Truly, what does one do? Do we just stop supporting games henceforth? lol
no matter how potentially beneficial, you're giving AI more and more inches. It won't consume your art/entertainment overnight by doing it in big ways first. It starts small, because we allow it to, like right now. Until it swells up like a festering tumor.
@BaetIIDX Once you get around to like vol. 8, the series finds a nice balance of climactic arcs weaved between nice elongated moments of the mundane. It's really where I started loving MT. I think I read vol. 7-12 in like one or two sittings because I was hooked. It's where I fell in love.
"It's just the way we're wired."
Even though Captain Clark is shown more clearly from this point on, I love that the entire scene only shows small glimpses of him; you can feel that he is huge and intimidating, but almost completely devoid of reason.
