i don't know what's happening in the horror movie industry rn... first we got the backrooms movie with a big success, yesterday Siren Head got announced with zach cregger (weapons director) writing it, and now the Mandela Catalogue creator is directing his own movie adaptation... with spielberg producing??

it's getting crazier by the day tbh, there is so much potential in horror right now that has ever been in games and movies both. Seeing creepypasta and internet horror concepts finally get the adaptations they deserve is exactly the wave i want to be part of.

I'm pretty sure that A24 kicked this whole thing off with backrooms. Now, it feels like every studio is hunting for "the next" viral horror IP. That's seems like the new meta. Wouldn't be shocked if SCP foundation finally gets picked up, jeff the killer gets a real adaptation instead of the disowned 2023 one, or another weird creature follows siren head.

Plus, so many horror games are getting adapted too, and markiplier proved with iron lung that these concepts can pull real box office, even without a studio behind them. Exit 8 turned a $1M budget into $40M+ worldwide off a solo dev's looping subway game. chilla's art just got a live-action adaptation, too. and cregger's resident evil drops this september.
