There are reportedly 7 vehicles and 8 buildings on fire, with multiple shops being looted.

Undocumented 25-Year-Old Foreign National Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison After Being Convicted of Raping a 14-Year-Old Girl in Komaggas

A 25-year-old foreign national has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after being convicted of rape and contravening the Immigration Act. The sentence was handed down in the Springbok Regional Court on 7 October 2026, following a case stemming from an incident involving a 14-year-old girl in Komaggas.

The incident occurred on 7 August 2022, when the 14-year-old victim was attacked after visiting local shops in the area. The matter was investigated by Constable Marco Links of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Springbok, who was commended for his dedication and professionalism.

Namakwa District Commissioner Brigadier Schalk Andrews welcomed the sentence and commended the work of Constable Links, as well as the successful prosecution in the Springbok Regional Court. The 25-year-old was convicted on the charges of rape and contravening the Immigration Act.

The Namakwa District Management said the conviction serves as a clear message that crimes of this nature will be dealt with severely within the justice system. The 22-year sentence brings the case to a conclusion following the investigation and successful prosecution of the accused.
