The eldest son of King Chlodomir and St. Clotilda, he cut off his hair (at the time, long hair was a privilege of princes) as a sign of his renunciation of his rights to the throne, consecrating himself to the monastic life. He placed himself under the direction of St. Severinus, was ordained priest and spent the rest of his short life in the religious instruction of the people, dying at the age of 36.
