Based out of Brooklyn, portraitist Kehinde Wiley is known for his stunning portrait of President Obama. He depicts the "heroic, powerful, majestic and the sublime" of "urban, black and brown men" in psuedo surrealist paintings. #BlackHistoryMonth#pspscholarship@phisigmapi
Audre Lorde was an American writer, feminist, womanist, librarian and civil rights activist. She was the youngest of three and her parents were immigrants from Grenada. She was born in 1934 and was raised in Manhattan. #pspscholarship#BlackHistoryMonth
It's #BlackHistoryMonth and if you haven't noticed, your Consultants have been celebrating by highlighting historical black leaders and scholars. Today I'm jumping in by sharing about Audre Lorde! #pspscholarship
Some of Lorde's works include From a Land Where People Live (1973 - nominated for a National Book Award), The Black Unicorn (1976) and The Cancer Journals (won the Gay Caucus Book of the Year award for 1981) #pspscholarship#BlackHistoryMonth
Lorde was a self-described "black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet" who was concerned with modern society's tendency to categorize groups of people. She used her creative talent to confront the injustices of racism, sexism and homophobia. #pspscholarship#BlackHistoryMonth
Lorde was first diagnosed with breast cancer in '78 and then with liver cancer 6 years later. She passed away in '92. Her legacy lives on in her creative works which have inspired change. I encourage you to check out some of her works! #pspscholarship#BlackHistoryMonth
