Foresters occasionally use their arboricultural skills in unique locations, like removing invasive shrubs from the sides and top of the University's Monroe Furnace stonework stack.
Congratulations to Steinman Lab alum Jacquie Molloseau, β23, for receiving a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program award! Jacquie is now a PhD student in the Allen Lab @DrFluvial at @PSUecosystems surveying stream macroinvertebrate eDNA.
Nine Penn State Wildlife Society students attended the Northeast Student Conclave (April 16β18, MD), earning 2nd in Quiz Bowl, 1st in team, six individual 1sts, and 1st overall (of 9 schools). Penn State DuBois placed 3rd overall.
Penn State Foresters spent days clearing trees from township and University roads. Most of the windthrown trees were very mature Norway spruce, eastern hemlock, Virginia pine and eastern white pine.
Forester Kevin Cook, cable skids a large white oak log in the Stone Valley Forest. Kevin's FOR228 students fell the hard leaning tree and bucked the tree into a merchantable length.
The Stone Valley Recreation Area and the Forestland Management Office staff assisted the PA Fish and Boat Commission and dozens of volunteers in the pre-season trout stocking of Penn State's Lake Perez and the outlet stretch of Shaver Creek southward.
Congratulations to all of the students who competed in the 2025 Annual Dendrocup held late last fall. These students earned a coveted team spot by being among the top performing students in FOR 203 Field Dendrology.
