@SameiHuda Every time this subject comes up I point them to the literature showing that modalities seem irrelevant, the most important component of psychotherapy seems to be the therapeutic alliance and that older more experienced therapists don't seem to do better than younger therapists.
The new WHO guidelines (mhGAP) for depression are ridiculous! AD:s get a conditional recommendation to be "considered" for moderate to severe depression with low certainty of evidence while psychological therapies - as a group - get a strong recommendation to be "offered" ->
@AlleyBno1 @APApsychiatric Why make this into a mid level debate unnecessarily?
There is no question that the experts in psychiatric medicine are MDs who have completed a psychiatry residency.
The difference in training is massive.
@therealmck3nzie@GedigMoritz@Neuro_Skeptic I'm a physician. It is a myth, you are using all of your brain to different levels consciously and unconsciously (automatic functions like breathing).
There isn't a hidden part of your brain that is off, waiting for you to turn it on.
@dawso007 Soft ones:
"Psychiatry is just neurology we don't understand"
~ "Meds only hide Sxlsedate patients"
"No biomarkers"
"Freud was a sex obsessed cocaine addict"
"Psychiatrist are in the pockets of Big Pharma"
"Torture patients: Ect"
"Dark history lobotomy"
"Pathologize normal"
@justin_garson Unfortunately, many psychiatrists still believe in simplified formulations of the serotonin hypothesis. Personally,I prefer neurobiological hypotheses that avoid false dichotomies (biological vs social, disease vs trauma, etc). Here's an image summarizing some integrative concepts
@OmarBukhari98 @emeltzermd Very probably going into Neuropsychiatry so very interested but I don't want to take the chance away from someone with a more pure "Neurology" background.
Here is my HMS Neuropsychiatry CME lecture on Neuroanatomy of Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry. I hope it is helpful. It gets updated annually, so feedback and comments are welcome. https://t.co/GfLlKueKQd @anpadirect@harvardneuromds @MGH_RI @MGHMartinos@MGHNeurology
