An opposition Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka has tabled a motion urging the government to make a humanitarian appeal regarding the detention of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Ajith P. Perera, a lawmaker from the main opposition, submitted the adjournment motion in Parliament, citing concerns about Mr Khan’s health and wellbeing while in custody.

The motion refers to what it describes as credible reports raising humanitarian concerns and calls on the Sri Lankan government to engage the authorities in Pakistan through diplomatic and parliamentary channels.

Our demands are clear and lawful:
• Immediate, emergency, and priority-based access to an independent medical board

• Immediate release in accordance with legal and humanitarian principles
Access to proper medical care is a fundamental human right. Any delay in treatment in an alarming health situation is deeply concerning.
