We are the Burroughs Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. JBES is a Title 1 school, PK3 - 5th, in Ward 5, the only Established STEM elementary in DCPS

Today, DC Public Schools (@dcpublicschools) announced that it will commission the use of the field adjacent to Burroughs Elementary for swing space during the modernization of both Burroughs and Bunker Hill Elementary Schools. Here is my statement regarding this announcement.

Thanks to tireless efforts of teachers, admin, & caregivers, @burroughses sees top enrollment, STEM accreditation, & high test scores. We need @mayorbowser to fund a neighborhood swing space for our modernization, so this progress is not undone. 1/x #DontLeaseOurFuture @PtoJohn

By Ignoring @burroughses caregivers’ calls for a temporary school location in the neighborhood during our school modernization @mayorbowser & @dcpublicschools are putting the agency’s convenience over equity. We need a Brookland option. #DontLeaseOurFuture @PtoJohn @dc_pto

@BurroughsES @MayorBowser @PtoJohn It's impt to note that other schools undergoing this process were able to stay in their neighborhoods. Our school shouldn't have to suffer the consequences of DCPS selling off SO MANY of their buildings in Ward 5. I look forward to @MayorBowser working with us to make this right
